A private confrontation with appearance, self-worth, and the distance between receiving compliments and believing them.

The beginning of heartbreak—giving everything away, confusing pain with devotion, and slowly losing sight of yourself.
BELIEF & DEPENDENCE
I believed in another person so completely that I stopped recognizing the parts of myself I had sacrificed.

Religion
A relationship becomes a system of faith, control, confession, and promises that were never meant to protect me.

Addiction
Not an addiction to a substance, but an addiction to love—the cycle of leaving, returning, and needing the person responsible for the pain.

Healing required me to admit what I had done, what had been done to me, and what I could no longer carry.

I asked someone not to give up on me before I understood that staying did not always mean choosing me.

A plea to remain connected, written from the fear that life could not continue without the relationship.

The aftermath of a polygamous relationship and the realization that the person who remained was no better than the person who left.
THE FINAL RELEASE
We knew each other once. Healing meant accepting that we could become strangers again.

Strangers
Finding temporary comfort in unfamiliar people while moving through connection with the risk and uncertainty of Russian roulette.
POEM 14
Goodbye
The final acknowledgment that the goodbye already happened and the relationship had become something neither person could return to.
“I’m sorry to say, we’re later than goodbye.”
